What DIY really costs (beyond money)
The refugio maze in April-May, months before you fly. Carrying your margin of error on your back. Weather calls made solo - and Patagonian wind is a genuine decision-maker, not scenery. None of this is a reason not to DIY; tens of thousands do it every season and the trail infrastructure is genuinely good.
